Pivoting During a Pandemic

Local Nonprofits Needed More Than Ever

June 4, 2020 by Dina Eastwood

The dog's owners were despondent. Their "baby," a Border Collie mix, couldn't stop licking her leg after a previous surgery site had reopened, leaving the tip of a metal rod jutting out. Because of Covid-19, both of the dog's parents had been laid off and they were losing their home. Thankfully, local nonprofit Max's Helping Paws was able to cover the vet bill. Right now, in early June, giant creatures lurk a mere mile off the Monterey coast. These leviathans can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh 2,000 pounds. For perspective, a Steinway concert grand piano tips the scale at 990 pounds; a Holstein dairy cow 1,500; and the curb weight of a classic 1970 Volkswagen Beetle is 1,918. These highly endangered gentle giants are known to … [Read more...] about Saving Sea Turtles

The Surreal Pebble Beach Adventures of Salvador Dali

June 4, 2020 by Michael Chatfield

dali

Precious few 20th century artists achieved the kind of fame that made them household names in their own lifetimes. Picasso, Calder, Warhol, Adams, Kahlo and Pollock come to mind. Arguably, none were more flamboyant, eccentric, diverse and downright interesting as Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dal I Domenech, Marquis of Dali de Pubol—or for those into the whole brevity thing, … [Read more...] about Art in All Dimensions
